Day Seven, Orviedo and its Camino trail

Linda and I got up to see a good friend off on his walk of the hardest Camino going to Santiago. It starts at the Cathederal in Orviedo.

 Inside the Cathedral.
Some stained glass a bit high up.
Shroud that covered the face of Jesus after he was crucified. Big stain is of his nose and mouth.
Grocery along the way to the Camino.
 Butcher shop along the way.

There are many different trails leading to Santiago De Compostela, but the one from Orviedo has the most hills. We walked with him to the outskirts of town, said goodbye and then walked back to the Hotel. 6 miles for us and that was enough for me. This town as well as the others on the Camino, mark the trail in town by embedding bronze scallop shells in the side walks. The hinge of the shell points you in the correct direction. Outside of town it is made up of trails which are easier to follow.

Picture of shells embedded in sidewalk.

We went back to the hotel, picked up Mary Ann who had been doing laundry and went by the Cathedral to eat. Now in Spain, there is a law that restaurants must offer a lunch with three courses for a decent price so everyone eats a good lunch. We had one of those today. First course was either a bean stew which I had or melon with Iberian ham which Linda and Mary Ann had. Second course was fried boneless pork with various toppings. Large portions which none of us could finish. Dessert was flan and beer or wine came with the meal. All for 12 euros each.

After a rest or should I say siesta, we walked through the old town near the Cathedral. What a nice area. But the weather seems to be turning colder.

 Time for Coffee and Beer
 A small square with restaurants.
 Another square
 I love the beautiful doors

Walking toward the Cathedral.

We went out later for dinner and had another great meal.

Linda's Salad  Apple's and Ham and oh so good
 Mary Ann's meal
My Paella of Bulls tail. Mary Ann and I shared.

The walk home at night.

Tomorrow we go to the coast and have one more night in Orviedo. Hard to believe we have only been in Spain one week.
