Day Eight. A trip to the small fishing village of Gijon

We started today on a bright note in that we fould a place to get Chocolate and Chirons close by. Not as good as Santiago, but still a great way to wake up.

A friend had told us about a road that leads up a mountain that overlooks Orviedo so went up there right after breakfast. Nice view of the city and very peaceful. Could not believe all the people walking up or riding bikes up  the mountain on a weekday. Good for them, but my days of walking up mountains I think are over. There is also a nice statue of Christ who look out for Orviedo.

View of Orviedo from above. These shots are never much good but I take them anyway,

We got off the mountain and headed for the small fishing village of Gijon. What a surprise. Gijon is the biggest city in this region. A lot of traffic and tall buildings. So we looked up some other small fishing villages near by and headed towards them. We found a very nice one to have lunch at called Ribadesella.

We left the coast and headed home for Siesta time.

We walked into the historic district behind our hotel where the Cathedral is to eat. Along the way Mary Ann's sandal broke so we detoured into ane of Spain's Supermarkets, got some shoe strings and then went to have a beer outside and repair Mary Ann's sandal.

Walked into the main part of town and found a very nice Tapas Bar where we ate dinner, We have been eating so many big meals that we are now happy with small snacks like tapas for dinner. I love the way they light the buildings at night in Europe,  Tomorrow we are off to San Sebastian for three nights.
