The Hermitage above Assisi. Saturday May 23rd

Today's objective was the Hermitage above Assisi where St Francis lived in a cave and meditated. They have of course built a church over the site.  Funny how sometimes you follow the GPS up the mountain until you drive into some farmers driveway. Luckily when you go back down on find the road signs pointing the way to the Hermitage.
It was a misty rainy day with low hanging clouds above Assisi which we drove into. But oh such a wonder place ND really the perfect weather to experience such a site. Very peaceful and it reminded me of many such a walk in Japan in the misty rain.

We also saw the actual cave were St Francis lived.

We still needed some clothes and shoes for Mary Ann so we searched around Santa Maria degli Angeli but came up empty. So off to Perugia and an Italian mall. Great place and we found Mary Ann a nice pair of Nike sneakers. And I found a pair of dress slacks that were in the lost suitcase.  Back to the farm and rest. We had rented a new car, Fiat Panda, but the AC was not working. Try as I may, I could not get Budget to respond to calls or emails. Linda saw that there was a Budget Rental office at the Perugia airport so off we went. Very small airport. We got to the counter, explained that the AC did not work, and showed them my contract. Brilliant Francessco behind the counter explained that to activate the AC on this car you press in on the fan button. We tried that and it worked. No where in the Italian documentation did it tell us that.
We got back to the farmhouse and have an email waiting for us saying Mary Ann's bag is found and waiting at Rome's airport for us. Now she has two suitcases full of clothes.
We rest, I nap, and go to another great restaurant outside pf Assisi located on an agrotourist farm. Great sampling of the local style of food.

We drive Linda back to her hotel and will head to Tarzo tomorrow. A long 6 hour road trip.
