Etruscan legacy of Italy Friday May 22nd

Rain Rain Rain  Too cold to go out, Too wet to play ball, So we sat in the house and did nothing at all.

Well not this group. We found out that the National Etruscan Museum was only a 1 1/2 hour ride away. Even though it was raining, it was a nice ride mostly through Italian country side  We arrived just about lunch time and found a lovely  restaurant.  Stuffed zucchini flowers and wide boar prosciutto for appetizers. Then three lovely main courses that words cannot describe.

Tortellini with meat in a wine sauce, oven baked macaroni, and spaghetti alla crawdads.
Great house wine to accompany the meal. And afterwards, the lovely owner took us into the old Etruscan caves below the restaurant to show us where they keep their wine.

Next off to the museum and seeing the Etruscan artifacts from 700 BC till the time of their conquest by the Romans in 264 BC. Great pottery which reminded me of Korean Shilla style as well as Grecian style. Think of "Ode to a Grecian Urn". Also lots of funeral caskets and statuary.

A great mosaic.

Unfortunately we missed the tour times for the Etruscan Tombs, but since we will be back in the area in a couple of weeks we will see the tombs then. Guess where we are going to eat?

A ride back to the farmhouse (which included a quick stop at a huge church located in the town before you get into Assisi) and a snacking style dinner that featured burrata cheese, prosciutto,  bread, and Proscecco. Chocolate for dessert.

Tomorrow we head to the Hermitage above Assisi and some of the other churches in Assisi
