Of Course. July 6TH

Last day in Salzburg. Up and out only stopping for German breakfast and coffee. We are off on the trail of Julie Andrews. First (and only stop for her part of today) Mondsee.  Therein lies the church where she married the Baron instead of that other guy. Pretty as a movie one might say. Mondsee, the town, is very nice also. Had we not had so big a breakfast we could have eaten here.

Rayher than just head back to Salzberg, I felt a drive through the countryside was in order. After 7 kilometets going the wrong way we are finally going nowhere in the right direction. Picking names out of a hat on the map can send you to some different places. One of them was a lake town called Fuschi am See. We drove through its winding streets with much pleasure.

Our next stop was a small mountain town called Faistenau. Only reason to stop here was  that it was halfway to Salzberg. What a nice find. Very small but we managed to find a hotel with restuarant. Food was so so but the spot was just ideal. And we had it all to ourselves.

It is time to head back to Salzberg, but fortunately the roads are not well marked. We end up on a 1 1/2 lane, semi paved road along the rock mountainside. Thankfully not much traffic. There are several one lane tunnels you have to honk your horn as you go through to warn oncoming traffic. More fun than the Amalfi Coast. Well not quite.
We get back to Salzberg and drive to the old town. We find it and a parking place. Waunder the old lanes and squares, popping into an old church hete and there to light some candles. The Duomo of Salzber is espically nice. We have a cold beer and ice capichino. They dont have ice capichinos, but they do have capichinos and they do have ice, so Mary Ann mixes her own. Did I mention it is over 90 degrees in Salzberg. Enough to melt butter as well as Mary Ann. We head back to the hotel. Her to rest up for tonight and me to do the blog.

Can you say Baroque?
Can you spell Baroque?

In the crypt they had this neat shadow figures display. I loved it.

We walked back to the car and on the way, we saw a closeup of the castle, horses waiting to give people a ride, and a lane that still had the signs hanging out telling people who couldnt read, what they sold.

We hope to drive back to old town to eat tonight.  And we did. Had to wait 20 minutes to eat at most popular Salzburg Restaurant. Ate outside because they had closed the inside of the restaurant due to excesive heat. Over 100 degrees inside. Had great meal and lovely conversation with Russian couple and their young daughter who now live in Paris. Home with a stop for pastry.  Tomorrow is Venice with Jack and Carolyn.

Where we ate in Salzburg.

Oh Yea the "of course" thing. Austrians have this habit of answering questions with "of course".  Works sometimes but most times not.
Examples
Me: "Is the sky Blue?"
Austrian : "Of Course" this answer works.
Me: "Does that sandwich come with bourbon whiskey?"
Austrian" "Of Course" ??????.
Me: "Does this road go to Salzburg?"
Austrian: "Of Course"  ?????

Very strange to me
